Fur & Coat Dry Shampoo for Dogs & Cats: How It Works
Previous blogs have discussed the properties and benefits of bentonite clay and colloidal oatmeal. Today we briefly discuss how these combine with other ingredients in our new and improved formulation for our fur and coat powder dry shampoo. (New labelling is coming soon.)
How our Fur & Coat Dry Shampoo Works
Our powder isn’t just a “pretty smell.” It’s carefully built to work with your dog or cat’s coat and skin.
-
Bentonite clay: the odor-absorbing powerhouse
At the core of this formula is bentonite clay, an ultra-fine cosmetic clay with a naturally high surface area. This allows it to cling to oils, dirt, and odor-causing compounds, holding onto them so you can brush them away. Bentonite helps lift that deep “doggy” smell from the coat while remaining gentle on sensitive skin, absorbing excess oil without stripping away all of the skin’s natural moisture. -
Clays & minerals capture odor at the source
Alongside bentonite, we use other gentle cosmetic clays and natural zeolite, a mineral often found in high-end odor control products. These tiny particles have a special structure that allows them to bind to and trap odor-causing molecules, especially those from oils and everyday smells. This means you can brush them away instead of simply masking odors with fragrance. Since they target excess oil and odor, they help freshen the coat without the harsh, drying effects of frequent full baths. -
Soothing oatmeal comforts itchy, thirsty skin
Finely ground colloidal oatmeal and oat beta-glucan create a soft, invisible barrier on your pet’s skin. This light, natural layer helps the skin retain its moisture and strengthen its protective barrier, so less water escapes through the surface (often called moisture loss).
The result is skin that feels less dry, less tight, and less itchy, making your pet more comfortable between baths. -
Silky plant starches keep it soft and brushable
Arrowroot and cornstarch give the powder a smooth, talc-free feel, making it spread easily through fur and brush out cleanly. They help balance any excess oil the clays don’t absorb, leaving the coat soft. No stiff, dusty feeling—just a light, refreshed finish. -
No water, no wait, no stress
Since it’s a dry powder, you get a quick “reset” for your pet’s coat without giving a full bath—ideal for between grooming sessions, muddy paws that were just wiped, or pets who dislike water. It helps refresh and soothe the skin on days when another wet bath would be too much. - The result? A calmer, less-itchy coat that smells cleaner and feels softer—with ingredients that help the skin retain its natural moisture—powered by bentonite clay’s odor-locking action in a formula designed to be as gentle and lick-friendly as possible when used as directed.
